Society

Our people

It takes more than a healthy food restaurant to create a positive ripple effect on the community. It starts with an experience, that endowed by Cinnamon Café in taking care of people. We value diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, giving back, encouraging healthy lifestyles and making a difference to Sri Lanka.

In terms of diversity, we welcome all races, religions and cultures of people from our multicultural backgrounds. It is through diversity that we build our character, who we are and what we do. Learning to achieve combined success while respecting and helping each other and serving our customers, we become families.

We value strong entrepreneurial spirit and the passion to learn and develop while being humble and giving back to the community.
Through teamwork and good leadership we encourage everyone to be become good global citizens while taking great pride in what we do and also being accountable for our actions.

With the increase in proportion of diabetes, cholesterol, heart disease and many others in this nation, we believe it is our utmost goal to encourage healthy and active living styles.

Making the world a better place

We love giving back to the community and helping those in need. It is a part of who we are. Every year Cinnamon Café together with its employees, partners, customers and stakeholders commits themselves to supporting charities and other philanthropic events.

A collection box is placed at every outlet for which people are encouraged to leave a generous donation. At the end of every year, these funds and further company donations are collected and used to build shelters such as elders’ homes, housing for orphanages, and community colleges.

We also provide free food to disadvantaged and deserving places such as SOS Children’s Home, SOS Animals, Home for disabled elders, My Wish, Child Fund once  a month and on special occasions like Christmas and New Year to spread a little joy and a heart-healthy meal to their lives.

We as part of JKH hotel chain, pride ourselves in being caring citizens of this country and choosing environmentally friendly business practices such as Eco-Restaurants, conserve electricity and water, reduce waste by recycling or composing. We believe that together we can and we will make the world a better place.

We would love to help out with your local charity or community events. Please write to us and tell us about yourself and your cause and we will try our best to support you.

The Soup Kitchen

The idea of starting a soup kitchen was one of the most brilliant ideas that JKH has produced. As soon as it was implemented in the hotels island wide, aiding to reach all the rural homeless communities and individuals who barely eat a proper meal per day, we knew it was a project that everyone will value, support and want to be a part of throughout time.

Where? The service entrance to the hotel kitchen is used to enter the soup kitchen which is separated allocated with a pantry welcoming all volunteers from both public as well as the hotel.

Who? We require seven people in the pantry every weekend. Rosters will be updated every Wednesday so please send in your details for participation by Monday. Depending on availability you will be allocated. (Saizan, pls add the link to roster here)

What time? Food will be prepared by the hotel chefs by 10am. Volunteers are requested to be at the kitchen by this time to start packing the lunch packets. All packets will be prepared and loaded to the van for delivery by 11.30am.

At 10am the soup kitchen doors will also be open to the needy elderly citizens to enjoy the meal starting with special healthy soup seated on the benches and delight in a chat with the volunteers.

We also invite those homeless young and physically incapable individuals to take up vacancies in the city, such as cleaning and security, and help to build up their living standards and lead a better life for their family and children.

By offering them a warm and healthy meal close to the heart, the number of helpless people we touch and the feeling we receive by providing food for the homeless and an opportunity for a better life is truly indescribable and a feeling to cherish for always.

Promoting health and nutrition

Eat smart, stay fit and live long

The Cinnamon Café system is committed to providing a wide range of organic, fresh, wholesome, tasting food made in the healthiest ways so your tummy will be happy and you will be well looked after.

We care about the wellness of our community; we want everyone to have a chance to a healthy diet by professional JKH chefs and our competitive pricing. Our food will touch on fresh and nourishing concepts prepared instantly like submarine sandwiches with meats, fresh vegetables, salads and homemade sauces. While we will also have a rice and curry 'clay pot' option for lunch.

Our vision is to make our restaurants and operations as environmentally and socially responsible as possible. Using good and environmentally sound practices help increase profitability and improve customers dining experience whilst protecting the planet.

Our menus will evolve around providing access to nutrition and healthier lifestyles, whilst meeting the highest quality and safety standards. Our standard recipes contain fresh vegetables, essential vitamins, calcium, iron, no cholesterol and trans-fat and contain a good source of protein.

Cinnamon Café recognizes the importance of giving the right nutrition with the right amounts for growing children and strive to provide a well-balanced meal consistent with the USDA. Our newest addition to the menu is the Fresh Kit meal for kids to stop by and take to school. This includes mini submarine, sliced apples and a packet of low fat milk or 100% fresh fruit juice.

Sourcing

Sustainable Sourcing

Our restaurants are known for serving the best fresh and nutritious food to millions of customers. Our purchasing units buy all the necessary ingredients such as breads, fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, milk etc. from local farmers and home growers. This is our way of giving back to the community we operate in by supporting local businesses to help raise the standards of living in those target areas.

However, to maintain the quality standards of the restaurant, we will only intake high quality produce that meets safety standards. We hope to expand our restaurants and provide job opportunities to the local farmer's children too and build possible career prospects in one of the greatest companies in the country.

We support responsible farming and fishing, those farmers who share our commitment to social responsibility to ensure the long term sustainability of our country’s natural resources. Sustainable agriculture, manufacturing practices and packaging are considered such as cover cropping, crop rotation to restore nutrients to the soil and help maintain local ecosystems, minimize agrochemicals and employ irrigation practices that reduce electricity and water usage. We also encourage all our suppliers to convert their waste to organic fertilizer. Our restaurants follow suit with the hotels, treat all discharged water so it can be released safely to the environment.
